About
Monterroso Gallery is a contemporary art space in Houston founded in 2020 by artist and curator Gabriela Monterroso. The gallery works with artists whose practices are rooted in material exploration, cultural memory, and personal narrative, with a strong focus on Latin American and diaspora voices.
The gallery operates as both an exhibition space and a platform for long-term artistic development. Its programming includes curated exhibitions, artist residencies, public conversations, and cross-border cultural projects that connect Houston with creative communities in Guatemala and throughout Central America.
Rather than functioning solely as a commercial venue, Monterroso Gallery emphasizes process, dialogue, and sustained relationships with artists. Exhibitions are built around bodies of work rather than trends, allowing practices to unfold over time.
In addition to its main space, Monterroso Gallery curates off-site exhibitions in partnership with residential and cultural institutions across Houston, including its ongoing satellite program at Crimson.
Through exhibitions, residencies, and cultural art tours, the gallery acts as a bridge — between artists and audiences, between local and international communities, and between the act of making and the act of sharing.
