Luisa Duarte

Houston-based artist Luisa Duarte was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where she received her B.A in Architecture in 1987 and moved to United States in 2003.


Duarte’s inspiration is based on her own eclectic sources of interest and experience, blending diverse cultures, she has found enrichment and understanding of what constitutes home.


Duarte’s use an aesthetic based on geometrical abstract movement and this movement has loosely informed her practice as architect and continues to influence her artistic practice.

An impetus to seek beauty and to restore a personal sense of order and harmony drives her works, exploring a very personal journey of self-expression.

Her work has been exhibited in various institutions around the world, including the 2017 Texas Biennial in Austin, Texas, The Museum of Geometric and Madi Art in Dallas, Texas, The Museo de Arte Contemporaneo del Zulia, Maczul Maracaibo, Venezuela, The Museo of Miranda, Los Teques, Venezuela; and Galveston Arts Center in Galveston, Texas.
