Western-Style Holiday Pop-Up

On Saturday, December 20, 5 to 7 pm, Gallery Monterroso in the historic Isabella Court complex, showcases Houston artist/visioneer John Walker, who rolls out his latest enterprise. Walker Western Wear is dedicated to artisanal, locally produced Western and Americana clothing and accoutrements.

John will debut his new line of historically inspired Western neckwear based upon the traditional Navajo Scarf, a staple of cowboy style for more than 100 years, updated for the modern sensibility.

Each necktie is upcycled from mindfully sourced silk, chiffon, and other vintage fabrics. John will demonstrate both the creation of the ties — each one-of-a-kind, hand-worked by local craftspeople — as well as proper tying techniques. Also offered: other unique re-imagined and curated vintage-styled ephemera.

As a world-fusion DJ for 25 years, John will also be crafting a musical environment for the evening. (You’ll want to stay around until the very closing when John delivers a brief interactive sermon, revealing how Art will save the world.)
